Four Score in Double-Digits As Quakers Cruise Past Kenyon for First Win

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team picked up their first win of the season Friday afternoon over the Kenyon College Owls, 73-55. Wilmington improves to 1-1 overall this season ahead of their home-opener next Friday night.

The two teams battled to an 11-11 stalemate in the first quarter, before the Owls used a 6-0 run to take a 17-11 lead. They would end the period up 25-18.

The second quarter was a different story as the Quakers played phenomenal defense and couldn't be stopped offensively. Stephanie Altstaetter scored four points to get it within five at 27-22 before ZahKyria Walker cut it to three and Bailey Eddleman tied it with a three-pointer to make it 27-27. The Quakers outscored the Owls 24-6 in the second quarter, shooting 53%, and took a 42-31 lead into the halftime break.

Wilmington continued to hold a steady lead throughout the third quarter, as they led by as many as 20 points after Cassidy Lovett knocked down a pair of free throws to make the score 60-40. The Quakers would hold a 60-43 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

The final period was more of the same as the Quakers lead never dipped below 13 points. Keetyn Hupp had five points to lead the Quakers in the quarter, as they took the 73-55 victory.

  • This was Quakers head coach Sydney Moss's first career collegiate head coaching victory.
  • Keetyn Hupp scored 18 points for the second straight game to go along with five steals, three rebounds, and two assists.
  • ZahKyria Walker had 16 points for the Quakers, along with seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal.
  • Cassidy Lovett recorded 14 points, seven steals, seven rebounds, and four assists.
  • Coming off the bench, Stephanie Alstaetter scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, blocked two shots, stole two passes, and dished out one assist.
  • The Quakers had 18 steals as a team.

What's Up Next

Wilmington hosts their annual Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday of next weekend. They host the Asbury University Eagles on Friday night at 7:00 P.M. in their next contest.
