Softball Welcomes Mount Union for Sunday OAC Series

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College softball team returns to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play on Sunday (note the day change) when the University of Mount Union comes to campus for a twinbill. The series is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers stand at 13-17 on the season and 1-11 in league games having most recently swept Miami University-Hamilton on Thursday. The Purple Raiders bring a 25-7 record into the the series with an 8-4 conference mark. Mount Union most recently shutout Westminster College in two games on Thursday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 16th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. The winningest softball coach in school history, she also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Megan Simons, a 2010 Mount Union alumna, is in her eighth season as head coach of her alma mater. She guided the Purple Raiders to an OAC regular season title in 2021.

The Hitters: A trio of Wilmington hitters - Judaea Wilson, McKenna Archey and Lindsey Carter - all hit close to or above a .400 clip with Wilson's .405 average leading the team of those with over a dozen at bats. Logann Julian carries a .343 batting average and has driven in 23 runs to lead the Quakers. Mount Union, offensively, is led by the trio of Adri George, Faith Reicosky and Sydney Mercer. George and Mercer have combined for seven home runs and 48 RBIs. 

The Pitchers: Three Wilmington pitchers - Alexis Stringfellow, Avree Entler and Izzy Rothrock - have all pitched between 40-45 innings and have combined for nine of the team's 13 victories on the season. Stringfellow has tallied five victories while Rothrock has 36 strikeouts in over 41 innings. Kendyll Cahill is the Mount Union ace and one of the top pitchers in the OAC. She carries a 1.11 ERA with 115 strikeouts in 119.1 innings pitched. Cahill allos less than one walk/hit per inning pitched.

Series History: Wilmington is 7-21 against Capital since the 2009 season, but won both matchups last season. The Quakers and Herriers will be meeting for the first time over a decade on Thursday. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
