WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College softball team opens its 2023 campaign with a road doubleheader at Franklin College on Saturday. First pitch is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Franklin. The Quakers are looking to build upon a 13-19 campaign from a season ago that saw WC finish 6-12 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contests. The Grizzlies, who finished last season 21-19, are off to a 4-0 start to 2023 having swept the Fontbonne University Invitattional last weekend.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 16th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. The winningest softball coach in school history, she also heads the College's coaching minor. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Angie Bain, formerly an assistant coach at Butler University, is in her third season as Franklin's head coach. She's led the Grizzlies to consecutive winning seasons. 

The Hitters: Wilmington returns two All-Conference selections offensively in junior Lindsey Carter and sophomore Judaea Wilson. Carter drove in a team-best 20 runs a season ago along with hitting a .380 clip. The Clinton-Massie High School alumna also hit 10 doubles, two home runs and scored 23 runs on the season. Wilson led WC in average at .389 and notched 11 doubles during her freshman campaign, fifth-most in program history in a single season. She alos scored 12 runs and stole seven bases. Through four games, a trio of Grizzlies - Eriana Wagner, Genesis Munoz and Molly Wallace - have averaged at least a .500 clip with the first two combining for nine RBIs.

The Pitchers: The Quakers' top two pitches in terms of innings pitched - Alexis Stringfellow and Izzy Rothrock - are back in 2023. Both carried ERAs below 4.25 with Stringfellow pitching three complete games and Rothrock striking out a team-best 46 batters. Stephanni Kleber has a 0.54 ERA with 10 strikeouts and two victories in 13 innings pitched for the Grizzlies thus far this season.

Series History: Wilmington is 3-12 against Franklin since the 2012 season. The Grizzlies have won the last 11 meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
