Wilmington College softball player Savannah Hooper has been recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for her performances in the classroom and on the field.

Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington), a sophomore outfielder, earned a spot on the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VII team, the organization announced today (Thursday, May 5, 2016). District VII is comprised of Division III schools in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

She is the first Wilmington College softball player to earn CoSIDA's academic honor. Hooper was named Academic All-OAC in basketball this past season. 

"Savannah is a remarkable young lady in the classroom and on the field," said Wilmington head coach Beth Floyd. "Academically, she is a hard working student, who is dedicated to always doing her best. She takes the same approach to the field. All of her accomplishments come from her solid values. She is one of the best human beings and team players I have even been around. I am truly blessed to get to be her coach. There aren't enough words to describe how much she means to our team. She makes others around her better. She is the epitome of a team player. She plays so hard and is a tremendous athlete. She is definitely exciting to watch play softball."

Hooper, who was named WC's Female Athlete of the Year, finished third in the OAC with a team-high .472 batting average, which is the third-best average all-time at Wilmington College. She also finished fourth in the OAC with 20 stolen bases. Hooper's 50 hits are also third all-time in school history.

The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District™  honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
