A pair of comeback wins for @DubC_Softball

The Wilmington College softball team recorded its first doubleheader sweep in two seasons as the Fightin' Quakers won a pair of non-conference games from Hanover Wednesday at the Wilmington College softball complex.

WILMINGTON 9, HANOVER 8 (GAME ONE)

Sophomore Courtney Mackey (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) smacked a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning as Wilmington posted the 9-8 comeback victory.

Junior Kerrie Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) started the rally by reaching and moving to second on an error. She advancec to third on a groundout, and brought home winning run on Mackey's single.

It capped off a scintillating six-run comeback. Wilmington trailed 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Three of the first four batters reached, and Mackey brought home the first run of the inning with a well-placed bunt. Senior Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland) brought two more home, and senior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) completed the rally with a three-run homerun. It was her second long ball of the season.

Hanover took the lead with two runs in the top of the first, and WC chipped away with single runs in the second and fourth innings.

The Panthers took the lead with five runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth.

Mackey finished the game 3-for-5 with a triple, run scored and three RBI, while Stewart was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI.

Sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) and sophomore Chandler Fields (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) both had two hits for the Fightin' Quakers.

Sophomore Beth Persicano, 1-0, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.

WILMINGTON  4, HANOVER 2 (GAME TWO)

Wilmington scored two runs in the first and third innings, and used solid pitching to secure the 4-2 victory and the sweep.

Freshman Allison Pierce, 1-1, (Troy, OH/Troy) earned her first collegiate victory in the circle, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five innings. Sophomore Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) picked up her second save of the season, yielding just one hit in two innings of work.

The Panthers took the lead with a one run in the top of the first, but WC quickly answered in their half.

Mackey smacked a one-out double, and scored on a two-out double by Warren. Fields gave Wilmington the lead with a single that scored Warren.

The Fightin' Quakers added a pair of insurance runs in the third inning. Sophomore Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) drove a two-out double to left, scoring Warren, who singled with one out. Edwards scored on a single by Pierce.

Warren finished 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Hooper, Edwards and Pierce all had three hits for Wilmington.

Wilmington (8-8) travels to Capital 1 p.m. Saturday for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader.
