Big innings hurt @DubC-Softball

The Wilmington College softball team was held to six hits and surrendered 79 percent of their runs in two innings as the Fightin' Quakers lost a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games Wednesday at the WC Softball Complex.

MUSKINGUM 14, WILMINGTON 0 (GAME ONE)

  • Muskingum did all of their damage in the final two innings, scoring four runs in the fourth and 10 in the fifth.
  • Sophomore Courtney Mackey (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) tallied Wilmington's only hit of the game.
  • Sophomore Becca Carpenter, 2-8, (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) was saddled with the loss. She allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. She finished with three strikeouts.

MUSKINGUM 14, WILMINGTON 2 (GAME TWO)

  • The Muskies blew open a close game with a 12-run fifth inning.
  • Mackey doubled in the third inning to score freshman Taylor Hill (New Concord, OH/John Glenn), who opened the inning with a walk. The run tied the game at one.
  • Muskingum regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning before putting the game away in the fifth.
  • Senior Megan Warren (Grove City, OH/Grove City) added an RBI single in the fifth.
  • Sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington), sophomore Whitney Edwards (Frankfort, KY/Franklin County) and freshman Kennedy Metz (Russia, OH/Russia) all had hits.
  • Sophomore Beth Persicano, 1-2, (Knoxville, TN/Cincinnati Turpin) allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits in four innings.

Wilmington (8-16 overall, 0-10 OAC) hosts Baldwin Wallace 1 p.m. Saturday.
