FT. MYERS, FL – The Wilmington College softball team split two games at the 2016 Gene Cusic Classic at the CenturyLink Complex.

GAME ONE

Sophomore Savannah Hooper (Leesburg, OH/Wilmington) and freshman Allison Pierce (Troy, OH/Troy) combined for all six of Wilmington's hits and the Fightin' Quakers left nine runners on base in falling to Olivet, 3-0.

The Comets scored two runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to pull out the win.

Sophomore Becca Carpenter (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) was cruising through five, holding Olivet to just one hit. She took the loss, allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in seven innings. Carpenter added five strikeouts with two walks.

Hooper registered four singles in four at-bats, while Pierce was 2-for-3 in the loss.

GAME TWO

Freshman Megan Joyner (Warton, MD/Kent County) was simply stellar in the circle in relief as Wilmington bounced back for the 8-2 win over Albion.

Joyner (1-0), forced into action by an injury, didn't allow a hit in 4 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and zero walks. She entered a tie game with bases loaded in the third inning, and promptly got out of the jam with a strike out and a ground out.

Wilmington used that momentum and reclaimed the lead with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In between the two run-scoring innings, Joyner struck out the side in the fourth.

Eight different batters pick up a hit with sophomore Courtney Mackey (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) leading the way with a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles and two RBI.

Senior Jesse Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland) and sophomore Chandler Fields (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) each scored twice for the Fightin' Quakers.

Wilmington (1-1) plays Dominican 9 a.m. Monday and then plays Wisconsin Lutheran 11 a.m.
