WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's track and field team opens its indoor season at Wittenberg University on Friday evening. Field events are slated to begin at 4 p.m. while track events are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by host Wittenberg University along with the following schools – Thomas More University, Central State University, the University of Rio Grande, Ohio Wesleyan University, Kenyon College and Mount St. Joseph University.
The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 22nd season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.
Who to Watch: Both Joe Shuga and Luke Richardson return after placing in track events at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Championships last year. Shuga threw a mark of 48' 6" in the weight throw and 42' 8' in the shot put while Richardson took seventh (21' ½") in the long jump. In distance events, Evan Whitaker and Simon Heys, both Second Team All-OAC honorees in cross country in the fall, are expected to run in the event.
