Men's Track & Field Heads to OAC Indoor Championships This Weekend

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's track and field team travels to Marietta College for the 2020 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.

The Schedule: The two-day event, Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, Feb. 29, is scheduled to begin with field events in the morning followed by track events in the afternoon. Friday's action kicks off with field events at noon followed by track events at 4 p.m. The meet concludes with 10 a.m. field events and 2:30 p.m. track events on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by host Marietta and the other eight OAC member institutions – Baldwin Wallace University, Capital University, Heidelberg University, John Carroll University, the University of Mount Union, Muskingum University, Ohio Northern University and Otterbein University.

The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 22nd season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.

Who to Watch – Field Events: The Fightin' Quakers have a dozen qualifying times/marks in field events. In throws, Joe Shuga will compete in both the weight throw and the shot put while Andrew Pacifico is slated for the former and Blake Jamison the latter. In jumps, Max Queen will compete in all three jumping events while Jeff Clydesdale made qualifying marks in the high jump and triple jump. Anthony Gilmore and Tobias Hailey will compete in the high jump and long jump respectively.

Who to Watch – Track Events: Simon Heys is qualified in every distance event from the 1,000-meter on while Taton Bertsch is in every distance event, including the 800-meter run but the 3,000-meter run. Evan Whitaker has qualified for both the mile and the 5,000-meter run while George Rickett is scheduled to compete in the 5,000-meter run.
