Men's swimming drops nail-biter

WILMINGTON – It came down to the final race. The team that won the 200 meter freestyle relay would leave the dual meet victorious.

After falling behind early in the race, sophomore Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Central) pulled Wilmington ahead with a strong second leg, but Franklin quickly made up the marginal deficit and was leading as the third and fourth swimmers hit the pool for their respective legs. The Grizzlies held on by less than five tenths of a second to win the dual meet, 107-97.

"It's always the toughest when you lose a close meet," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "It was one of those meets that was back and forth all day. It was exciting, but tough to lose."

Junior Corbin Hellwarth (Celina, OH/Parkway) was victorious in two events, winning the 200 meter individual medley in a time of 2:27.94 and the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:12.11. Harris added a victory in the 800 meter freestyle, completing the distance in 9:25.92.

Wilmington (2-2) hosts a tri-meet 1 p.m. Saturday as OAC foe Transylvania and Wittenberg will visit the Hermann Court Natatorium.
