Swimming falls to ONU

ADA, OH – The Wilmington College men's and women's swimming teams fell for the first time this season, falling to Ohio Northern Friday. The men's team fell to the Polar Bears, 187-44, while the women's team lost, 170-57.

"We had some great swims, some great races," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "There were some gutsy swims. The team as a whole, we had great energy and great intensity."

Breen said the distance swimmers were the strength of the team during the meet. Freshman Addie Roberts (Franklin, OH/Franklin) was victorious in the 1000 free, finishing the distance in 11:40.34, while freshman Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Westerville Central) won the 500 free with a time of 5:07.04

Despite his pleasure with how is team is swimming, Breen acknowledges where his team is at this moment.

"We have a lot of work to do," said Breen. "We are making little mistakes. We don't finish until the third week of February. I couldn't be happier with our race energy and intensity."

Wilmington won't have a lot of time to recover from the meet and the trip from northern Ohio as they return to the pool 1 p.m. Saturday in non-conference action against Franklin.
