Lacrosse at home this weekend taking on Anderson (IN)

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team continues its 2020 campaign on Saturday, February 29th when Anderson of Indiana comes to Williams Stadium for a 1 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Anderson (Indiana). The Fightin' Quakers are looking to improve upon a 2-13 record in 2019 and are now 1-0 after this weeks opener against Bethany.  After the first test, they average 55 shots per game and, won 32 ground balls and turned the ball over 15 times. Anderson started the season 0-2 after losses at both Trine and Heidelberg.  They have combined a total of six goals in both games averaging 18 shots per game, winning 48 total ground balls and turning the ball over a total of 64 times so far in the early part of this season.  

The Coaches:
 Jeff Arneson is in his third year leading the Wilmington men's lacrosse program. Prior to leading the Quakers to a 5-9 record last season, Arneson, a Wilmington High School alumnus, spent six seasons as head coach at Thiel College (Pennsylvania). Ryan Hilyer, formerly an assistant coach at Thiel (for Arneson), enters his fourth season as Bethany's head coach.

The Players:
 Wilmington returns its top four offensive players – Connor JudgeAndrew MillerJadon Flannery and Zac Chutca – as each begin their senior season on Thursday. All tallied at least 20 points in 2019 with Judge leading the bunch at 41 to go along with a team-best 33 goals. Miller dished out a team-best 15 assists. Bethany will need to replace its top scorer as Will Gatling left the program via graduation. Tristan Shaffer, Nicholas Melita and Clay Yingling all return having scored double-digit goals in 2019. After one game, Miller leads the team with four points after scoring four goals followed by Chucta and Flannery, who each have two.  Austin Young also made an impact the immediately, scoring one goal and assisting on two others.   

Series History:
 Wilmington and Anderson (Indiana) met for the first time in 2019. The Fighting Quakers won by a score of 16-11.   Comparing stats, both teams where very similar. The only difference was in total shots and ground balls, where Anderson led both by at least ten.
