Women's Swimming Beaten By Ohio Northern in Home Opener

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's swimming team lost their home opener in the Wilmington Natatorium Friday night, 181-80, to the visiting Ohio Northern University Polar Bears in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

Sophomore Makenna Garn had a solid dual for the Quakers, as she won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:23.93, narrowly besting Ohio Northern's Mara Brown (1:24.00). Garn was beaten by Brown in the 50 Breaststroke but finished with a time of 38.95 to take second place, just behind Brown's 38.70. Garn was also a part of two second-place relays for the Quakers in the 200 Medley and the 200 Freestyle.

The team of Sydney Overmyer, Garn, Gabby Kuetemeyer, and Lillian Green swam the 200 Medley in a time of 2:16.36 while the team of Overmyer, Audrey Bibb, Garn, and Courtney Getter finished the 200 Freestyle in 2:04.40.

Overmyer also took second in both the 50 Backstroke (35.53) and the 100 Backstroke (1:17.32). Green continued to have a solid start to her freshman campaign, with a second-place finish in the 50 Freestyle (29.98), as the Polar Bears Ashleigh Nelson barely took the win with a time of 29.90. Green nearly took second in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:08.31 but came in third as Ohio Northern's Melina Roberts finished in 1:08.21. Freshman Courtney Getter grabbed third in the 200 Freestyle with a mark of 2:31.64.

What's Up Next

The Quakers fall to 0-2 overall this season. They return to the pool for their first tri-meet of the season at Wittenberg University on October 28th against both the Tigers and the Transylvania University Pioneers, with the action beginning at 1:00 P.M.
