@DubC_Wlax start slow in loss

HIRAM – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team dug themselves into an early hole that they couldn't overcome, and the Fightin' Quakers fell 10-8 Saturday at Henry Field in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Terriers scored goals on their first five shots of the game, and opened up a 6-0 leads through the first 15 minutes of the game.
  • Senior Stephanie Belz (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) scored two of Wilmington five goals as WC went on a 5-1 run to pull within two goals. Belz finished with three goals on four shots.
  • After Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) scored with 10:49 remaining in the second half, Wilmington trailed by just one goal. However, they couldn't find the back of the net.
  • Bryson and senior Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) each scored two goals for the Fightin' Quakers. Routzong led the team with five draw controls.
  • Senior Katie Bennett, 1-4, (Newport, OH/Frontier) registered nine saves on 19 shots, and added a team-high seven ground balls.
  • Bryson, Routzong and sophomore Abby Engelhart (Westerville, OH/ North) all caused four turnovers.

Wilmington (1-4) returns home to face Franciscan 8 p.m. Wednesday.
