SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Luke Richardson set a career-best mark of 21' 9" to win the long jump and highlight the Wilmington College men's track & field team's performance at the Wittenberg Invitational on Friday.
The freshman beat the entire field by over two inches while also beating his previous career-best set by nearly four inches at the Centre Twilight Meet last weekend. Teammate Colin Myers also scored in the event, placing fifth by jumping 20' 3 ¼". The two dual-sport, student-athletes contributed more points for the Fightin' Quakers in the triple jump as Richardson (41' 2 ¼") and Myers (41' 1 ¾") placed fourth and fifth respectively.
Joe Shuga and Andrew Pacifico continued Wilmington's field event performances as Shuga threw 43' 2" for a seventh-place finish in the shot put and Pacifico threw 126' 1 ¾" in the hammer throw to also finish in seventh place.
In track events, Adam Knaub finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19 seconds to finish 12 hundredths of a second behind Albion College's Richard Annorat. In the 800-meter run, Taton Bertsch placed fourth with a mark of 2:06.60. Additionally, Aaron Koch placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.34 seconds.
The Quakers also had three individuals score in the 5,000-meter run as Ryan Honkomp (17:35.88), Austin Wampler (17:42.58) and Evan Brandon (18:47.73) placed fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
As a team, Wilmington finished in fourth place with 57 points while the University of Mount Union won the meet with 258 total points.
Wilmington will head to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Championships hosted by Otterbein University next weekend.
