WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College men's track and field team opens the New Year at the Marietta Invitational hosted by Marietta College on Saturday. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) members Marietta, Muskingum University and Capital University. Bethany College of West Virginia is the other NCAA Division III institution in attendance.
The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 18th season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.
Who to Watch: Evan Whitaker won the 5,000-meter run (15:50.11) in the first indoor event of the season, the First Glimpse Meet also at Marietta in December. Cameron Phelps and Austin Wampler finished second and seventh in the event, respectively. The FIghtin' Quakers' 4000-meter relay squad of Evan Whitaker, Elliot Philimore, Jacob Whitaker and Taton Bertsch won the event with a time of 11:39.15.
