Men's Track & Field Second at Rick Meindl Last Call Meet

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's track & field team took second at the Rick Meindl Last Call Meet hosted by Capital University on Friday evening.

Wilmington finished with 136 points, beating Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) members Marietta College, Muskingum University, Capital University and Otterbein University. Ohio Dominican University won the meet with 151 team points.

In sprints, Adam Knaub won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.56 seconds while Elliot Phillimore took third by finishing the event in 23.75 seconds. Knaub (third), Aaron Koch (sixth) and Luke Richardson (eighth) all placed in the 60-meter dash with times of 7.35 seconds, 7.51 seconds and 7.62 seconds respectively.

Phillimore claimed the title in the 500-meter dash (1:11.23) while Sam Foote took fourth (1:19.87) for Wilmington in middle distance. Taton Bertsch ran a time of 2:01.94 to finish runner-up in the 800-meter run while Josh Cyrus (2:07.35) took eighth in the event. Rounding out the middle distance was a sixth-place finish from Koch (54.03 seconds) and a seventh-place (54.23 seconds) mark from Knaub in the 400-meter dash.

Evan Whitaker and Gage Clemens highlighted the Fightin' Quakers' performances in distance events as Whitaker won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:04.21 while Clemens claimed the title in the 5,000-meter run by finishing the event in 16:31.94. Ryan Honkomp (17:19.77) and Austin Wampler (17:27.27) followed Clemens in the 5,000-meter run while Cameron Phelps (9:27.82) and Honkomp (10:10.28) took fourth and sixth place respectively in the 3,000-meter run. Evan Brandon completed the Wilmington distance events running the mile run in 5:37.76 for an eighth-place finish.

The Wilmington 4-x-400-meter relay squad of Bertsch, Phillimore, Cyrus and Whitaker took second with a mark of 3:49.58.

In field events, Richardson claimed the long jump title with a mark of 20' 7 ¼". Joe Shuga (42' 8 ¾") took fourth in the shot put and seventh (42' 3 ½") in the weight throw while Andrew Pacifico threw a mark of 43' 4 ¼" in the weight throw to finish fifth.

"We had a great team meet tonight and our team performed really well," Head Men's Track & Field Coach Ron Combs said. "Tonight was a great way to end our regular season as several people qualified for the OAC Indoor Championships next weekend."

Wilmington heads to the OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University next weekend.
