Quakers Men's Soccer Defeated in Road Battle at Marietta

(MARIETTA, Ohio) - The Wilmington College men's soccer team lost a tough road contest to Marietta College Saturday afternoon, 2-1. The Quakers now sit at 2-9-2 overall this season and 1-3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Pioneers picked up a quick goal in the 12th minute from Payton Maynard off an assist from Mason Landis. The Quakers had a few good looks in the first half, and would tie the game at 1-1 with just 13 seconds remaining in the half off the foot of freshman Eli Eyrich. This is Eyrich's first goal of his collegiate career, while junior Peyton Tennis provided the assist. However, right out of the locker room, the Pioneers took the lead for good with a 46th minute goal coming from Gavin Heighberger to make it 2-1. The Quakers put one shot on goal throughout the remainder of the game.

  • The Quakers outshot the Pioneers 12-7, but Marietta had five shots on goal to Wilmington's three.
  • Eli Eyrich and sophomore Kaden Young took three shots in the game.
  • Thomas Grimes made three saves.
  • The Quakers had three corner kicks to the Pioneers two.

The men's soccer team returns home for three of their final four regular season games, starting with Wednesday night against Ohio Northern University at 7:00 P.M.
