Quakers Draw in High Scoring Game at Capital

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Wilmington men's soccer team held a 4-1 lead in the second half, but couldn't hang on as the Capital University Comets stormed back over the final 20 minutes to come away with a 4-4 draw.

The Quakers attacked early and often in this one, taking four shots before Sakarias Bahamondez found the back of the net for the Quakers in the 23rd minute. He would be joined by Jackson Beske who scored in the 43rd minute off a Eli Eyrich assist to give Wilmington a 2-0 lead at the half.

There were early fireworks in the second half as Capital got on the board in the 49th minute with a Zade Awad goal before Brady Vilvens scored 25 seconds later in the 50th minute for the Quakers to give them a 3-1 lead. Wilmington would continue to be aggressive offensively, scoring their fourth goal, making it 4-1 Wilmington, as Beske scored his second goal in the 66th minute off a double assist from Sakarias Bahamondez and Thomas Grimes

The Comets then began to roll. Jack Kossoudji scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to push it to 4-2 before Devon Hess found the back of the net in the 77th minute to put pressure on the Quakers. Awad would tally his second goal in the 85th minute to tie it up at 4-4 and push the match to it's eventual draw. Wilmington had three shots down the stretch but couldn't find a game-winner.

  • Sophomore Thomas Grimes made seven saves in the game.
  • Junior Brady Vilvens led the team with four shots and three on goal.
  • Freshman Jackson Beske scored two goals, marking the first multi-goal game of his collegiate career.
