Men's Soccer Hosts Mount Union on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team returns home for the first time during Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) competition on Saturday as the Fightin' Quakers host the University of Mount Union for a 3 p.m. contest.

The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers are 6-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the OAC after destroying Muskingum University 7-1 on Wednesday evening. The Purple Raiders are 8-1-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the OAC after a 2-1 double overtime loss at John Carroll University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Carter Poe is in his fourth season as Mount Union's head men's soccer coach. The Purple Raiders have qualified for the OAC Tournament twice in Poe's tenure.

The Players: Niklas Martensson has scored 11 of Wilmington's 26 goals as a team thus far this season. Daniel Kappelin and Benny Spirk have both scored three goals for Wilmington while Leon Tank has scored once and seven Quakers have netted a single goal. In net, Felix Maurer has allowed 1.68 goals per game. Colton Priester and Jesse Tinney have both scored three goals for Mount Union.

Top 25 Poll: Mount Union came in ranked No. 13 in the most recent Top 25 Poll. The Purple Raiders did not allow a goal in their first eight games before falling at John Carroll on Wednesday.

Series History: Wilmington is 12-8-1 against Mount Union since the 1993 season. The Purple Raiders have won the last three meetings, however. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
