Men's Soccer Heads to Muskingum Wednesday in Search of First OAC Win

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team looks to rebound from an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opening loss at Heidelberg University when the Fightin' Quakers travel to Muskingum University for a 7 p.m. game with the Fighting Muskies on Wednesday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Muskingum. The Quakers are 5-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the OAC after having their three-game winning streak snapped with the 2-0 loss at Heidelberg on Saturday. The Muskies are 5-5-0 on the season and also 0-1-0 in the OAC after allowing eight goals in a loss at John Carroll University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Chris Limle is in his fourth season as Muskingum's head men's soccer team.

The Players: Niklas Martensson has scored 10 of Wilmington's 18 goals as a team thus far this season including scoring the first two goals in the win over Franklin College last week. Daniel Kappelin and Benny Spirk have both scored three goals for Wilmington while Adriel Ortiz and Leon Tank have both found the back of the net once. In goal, Felix Maurer has allowed 1.73 goals per game. Mitchell Corey and Chase Michael Hilliard have combined to score 13 of Muskingum's 20 goals this season.

Series History: Wilmington is 23-3-1 against Muskingum since the 1991 season. The Quakers defeated the Muskies 4-2 last season, the last time the teams met in New Concord. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
