Men's Soccer Faces Road Test at Hanover on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team continues non-conference competition with a 5 p.m. contest at Hanover College on Tuesday evening.

The Teams: Wilmington and Hanover. The Fightin' Quakers stand at 2-2-0 overall after splitting a pair of contests at the 2018 Kiwanis Classic last weekend. Wilmington defeated Denison University 3-1 and fell to Kenyon College 5-0 in the tournament. The Panthers are 1-3-0 after a pair of losses at the Fred Myers-Addidas Challenge. Hanover fell at Capital University 7-2 and Ohio Wesleyan University 2-1.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Matthew Wilkerson is in his seventh season as Hanover's coach. He led the Panthers to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) regular season and tournament championship in 2015.

The Players: Niklas Martensson, who garnered All-Tournament team honors at the Kiwanis Classic last weekend, leads the Quakers with four goals, one assist and nine points as well as firing a team-high 18 shots. Martensson scored one goal and assisted on another in Wilmington's 3-1 triumph over Denison. Daniel Kappelin, who also scored against the Big Red, has scored three goals this season. Tanner Korfhagen has scored four of Hanover's five goals thus far this season.

Series History: Wilmington is 2-1-0 against Hanover in the last three decades. The Quakers and Panthers have played each of the last two seasons with the home team winning each contest. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
