QUAKER BOWL RIVALRY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's soccer team hosts Earlham College in the Quakers Bowl Rivalry on Wednesday evening. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Earlham. The Fightin' Quakers are 3-3-0 overall after notching their first road victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Bethany College (West Virginia) 1-0. The Hustlin' Quakes are 1-3-0 overall and current on a three-game losing skid. Earlham's lone victory was against the University of Cincinnati Clermont College 3-2 in overtime, a team Wilmington defeated 7-0.

The Coaches: Alex Van der Sluijs is in his first year leading Wilmington's men's soccer team. The 2007 alumnus, who was a three-time First Team All-OAC selection and a member of the program's only team to win an OAC title in 2004, worked at Defiance College for seven seasons. Sam Byrd is in his fourth season as Earlham's head men's soccer coach. The 2003 alumnus previously spent six season in two different stints as the program's assistant coach.

The Players: Niklas Martensson, who garnered All-Tournament team honors at the Kiwanis Classic two weeks ago, leads the Quakers with five goals, one assist and nine points as well as firing a team-high 25 shots. Martensson scored the only goal in a 1-90 victory at Bethany. Daniel Kappelin has scored three goals this season. Yuki Adams has scored two of Earlham's four goals this season.

Series History: Wilmington is 7-3-1 against Earlham since the 1986. Wilmington won the last meeting 3-2, but Earlham came out victorious the last time the team's played at Williams Stadium.  More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.

Quaker Bowl Rivalry: Prior to the 2017-18 academic year, Wilmington and Earlham announced a yearly competition between the two schools. Wilmington won the inaugural bowl last year, beating Earlham 10-2. This season, however, Earlham currently leads 3-1. More information on the Quaker Bowl can be viewed by visiting the link above.
