Two-out error sends @DubC_Baseball to loss

FT. MYERS, FL – A two-out error in the eighth inning brought the eventual winning run across the plate as Wisconsin Lutheran scored three runs in the frame to secure the 5-4 win over Wilmington Thursday in the final game of the 2016 spring break trip.

Wisconsin Lutheran had three of its seven hits, a one-out single, double and triple in consecutive order to put two runs on the board in the inning, and chase starter Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) from the game. The senior went 7 1/3 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Freshman Jared Ferenchak (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) pulled one out closer to getting out of the jam with a ground out to first, but a fielding error to the next batter brought home the tie-breaking run. The lefty didn't allow a single hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Senior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) singled home senior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville), who opened the third with a double, with the tying run. Wilmington took the lead in the fourth on a RBI single by freshman Gage Bley (Harrison, OH/Harrison) in the fourth.

The Warriors pulled even in the fifth, but single runs in the next two innings by Wilmington pushed the Fightin' Quakers back in front.

Bley doubled home freshman Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira), who opened the inning with a double in the sixth, and freshman Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) beat out a potential inning-ending double play in the seventh to bring home a run.

Schrock was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, while Bley was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Ramsey added two hits in two official at-bats with an RBI and a walk.

Wilmington (3-10) returns to action 1 p.m. Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader with Earlham.
