FT. MYERS, FL – The Wilmington College baseball team scattered 11 hits, but committed eight errors, and fell to Eastern Nazerene Tuesday, 12-6, in their third day of the 2016 Gene Cusic Classic.

Eastern Nazerene took the lead with a run in the first and two in the third before Wilmington dented the plate in the third. Freshman Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira) brought home his team-leading 11th RBI with a two-out double, scoring freshman Wade Gillette (Lucasville, OH/Northwest).

However, the Lions opened the game up in the bottom half of the inning with a five spot. The inning opened with a wild pitch allowing the lead runner to reach, and mixed with an error, ENC finished with five runs on just three hits to take an 8-1 lead.

Trailing 9-1 in the sixth, Wilmington showed some two-out life. Hyatt led the inning off with a single, and moved to third on a two-out single by senior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville). Freshman Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) singled for his first career RBI, and then senior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) loaded the bases with a bunt single.

Freshman Antonio Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) brought home two for his first career RBIs with another single. He finished the day 2-for-2 with a career-high three RBI.

But that would be the extent of the WC scoring, and the Lions got two of the three runs back in their half of the frame.

Walker and Trautman were each 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Hyatt was 2-for-5 with an RBI with a run scored.

Freshman Ryan Collett, 1-1, (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) took the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) on three hits in 2 1/3 innings. Sophomore Tyler McDaniel (Trenton, OH/Edgewood) continued his great start to the season. He allowed his first hit of the season, but has now gone 7 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run.

Wilmington (2-8) returns to action 9 a.m. Wednesday to play Pitt-Bradford in a non-conference doubleheader.
