FT. MYERS – The Wilmington College baseball team equaled their win total by earned a non-conference doubleheader split with Pitt Bradford Wednesday at the Player Development Complex.
PITT BRADFORD 10, WILMINGTON 7
- The Panthers seized control of the game with a six-run fourth to take a 6-2 lead, but it took a three-run eighth to secure the victory.
- Wilmington took advantage of a two-out error in the eighth to put a four-spot on the board to tie the game at seven.
- Seven of Wilmington's nine starters had at least one hit in the game.
- Freshman Antonio Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) continues to excel for the Fightin' Quakers, driving in a career-best four RBI, while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
- Sophomore Corey Lugiano (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne), who is platooning behind the plate, went 2-for-4 with an RBI to keep his batting average at .500 on the year.
- Freshman Joey Hollback, 1-1, (Sebring, OH/Salem McKinney) took the loss, allowing four runs in 4 1/3 innings of relief. He allowed four hits with three strikeouts.
WILMINGTON 13, PITT BRADFORD 3
- Wilmington raced out to a huge lead, scoring six runs in the first and third innings, and tallying a single run in the second.
- Every WC starter reached base with six starters recording multiple hits as the Fightin' Quakers smacked 13 hits.
- Freshman Jarett Trautman, 1-0, (Hartville, OH/Field) earned his first collegiate win with a complete game six-hitter. He allowed three runs, two earned, with seven strikeouts.
- The top two hitters in the lineup, senior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) and freshman Coltin Shafer (Florence, KY/Ryle) each had two doubles and two RBI with Shafer added three runs scored.
- Three other Quakers - freshman Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira), freshman Gage Bley (Harrison, OH/Harrison) and senior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) – drove in two runs.
Wilmington (3-9) completes its spring break trip 9 a.m. Thursday with a nine-inning game against Wisconsin Lutheran.
