DANVILLE, KY – The Wilmington College baseball team allowed two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and fell to Centre Sunday, 3-1, in non-conference action at Gary Wright Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) scored Wilmington's only run in the third inning. He reached on a one-out single, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and then scored on another passed ball.
- Walker was 2-for-2 with a walk and one run scored. His two hits were half of the Fightin' Quakers' total.
- A two-out error in the eighth inning extended the inning for the game-winning two-out single.
- Freshman Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) and sophomore Jake Robinson (Westerville, OH/South) also recorded hits.
- Trautman took the loss (0-1) allowing two unearned runs on two hits in the eighth inning.
KEY MOMENTS
- Walker reached second with one out in the sixth inning, but was picked off for the second out.
- The tying runs were in scoring position with two outs in the ninth, but a ground out by freshman Gage Bley (Harrison, OH/Harrison) ended the game.
NOTES
- Wilmington's starters picked well in the three-game series, yielding four runs in 15 2/3 innings (2.30 ERA).
- The relievers picked up losses in the last two games, allowing five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings (7.11 ERA).
- Robinson posted a .400 batting average (4-for-10) with two runs scored during the three-game series.
