WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team begins the 2021 spring Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament with a 5 p.m. contest with Baldwin Wallace University at Williams Stadium on Tuesday.
The Teams: Wilmington and Baldwin Wallace (BW). The Fightin' Quakers finished the regular season with a 4-3-2 overall record, good for fourth in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets, courtesy of an overtime win against Marietta College on the final day of the regular season, earned the No. 5 seed with a 4-4-0 record.
The Coaches: Steve Spirk is in his 29th year leading Wilmington's women's soccer team. The 1981 alumnus is a four-time All-American and one of the best players in men's soccer history. Spirk is the men's soccer leader in career goals (74), career assists (43), career points (191), single-season points (57 and 54) and season goals (22 twice). He has guided the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. Jim Wojtkun is in his fourth season as BW's head coach and has guided the Yellow Jackets to 35 wins.
The Players: Both Taylor Huffman and have 10 points for Wilmington's offense, scoring four goals and two assists while Heidi Edens has six points has netted three goals for the Quakers. Lauren Galloway, the Quakers' goalkeeper, has made 56 saves and has a goals-against-average of 1.32. Taylor Tomlinson leads the Yellow Jackets in goals with three while Kaitlin McGuire has found the back of the net twice.
Series History: Wilmington is 21-8-2 against BW in the last 35 years. Thanks to four first-half goals, the Quakers won the regular season meeting 4-1. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
OAC Tournament History: Wilmington will be making its 15th appearance in the OAC Tournament since joining the league prior to the 2000 season. The Quakers, who have an 8-11-2 all-time record in the postseason tournament, are a top four seed for the first time since 2009.
