WILMINGTON, Ohio - Capital University, which had surrendered just a single goal in its six games, netted one in each half of a 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory at Williams Stadium on Thursday evening.

The Crusaders nearly opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Haley Moore broke free down the far sideline of Townsend Field and fired a shot directed at the near post. Fortunately for the Fightin' Quakers, the shot caromed off the post and out of bounds. Capital kept up the pressure, however, and broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute as Madeline Woodruff found the back of the net.

Wilmington, which trailed 1-0 at halftime after being outshot 10-5 in the first 45 minutes, picked up its play in the second half with the final shot total for the second half being 7-7. Unfortunately for the hosts, Capital pounced in a miscue in Wilmington's defensive third to double its lead in the 72nd minute.

Lauren Galloway took the loss despite making 10 saves on a dozen shots. Kelly Bachmann improved to 6-1-0 on the season with a six-save performance.

Heidi Edens led Wilmington offensively with three shots including two on goal. Coincidentally, the sophomore's one shot that missed target in the ninth minute was perhaps the host's best chance to score, but the shot sailed just wide of the far post. Courtney Ryan, Abby Spirk and Elizabeth Matthews also fired multiple shots on goal.

Olivia Rotolo fired four shots on goal for Capital.

Wilmington (3-3-2) will conclude its 2021 spring regular season at John Carroll University on Sunday.
