NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's soccer team was lights out in a 3-0 victory against Muskingum University for its first win on the young season. The Fightin' Quakers handed the Fighting Muskies their second loss of the season, while Wilmington improved to 1-0-1.

Wilmington opened the scoring with the same individual, Heidi Edens, who scored the team's goal at Heidelberg. In the 11th minute, Taylor Huffman slipped a pass to Edens, who beat Muskingum goalkeeper Katie Bodenmiller. The Quakers would fire four more shots on goal in the first half, but would settle for the one-goal lead at halftime.

The visitors, looking to avenge a 3-1 loss in the fall of 2019, fired four shots on new Musky netminder, Kelly Buck, in the first 10 minutes of the second half. The last of those four came off the foot of Huffman and hit the crossbar. Not to be deterred, Huffman found the back of the net 90 seconds later, taking a pass from Haley Fulton to double the Quakers' advantage. Ema Menges closed out the scoring in the 80th minute off a pass from Carlie Brooks.

"It was a good team effort tonight as we possessed the ball well and created good chances as well as defended," Head Women's Soccer Coach Steve Spirk said. "I'm especially proud of how the team responded because of some travel issues that caused a late start. We are looking forward to our home-opener on Sunday."

Lauren Galloway faced two shots on goal, saved both and, with the help of a stout defense, earned the shutout. Tiffany Hayes, Edens and Menges all took at least three shots for Wilmington.

Mary double led Muskingum with three shots in defeat.

As a team, the Quakers outshot the Muskies 22-7 and led an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

Wilmington (1-0-1) hosts the University of Mount Union at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
