CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Junior Cameron Phelps paced the Wilmington College men's cross country team with a 49th place individual finish at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational hosted by Cedarville University on Saturday morning.

Wilmington, the only NCAA Division III institution at the invitational, finished 10th out of 16 teams with 322 points. Host Cedarville won the meet with 41 points.

Phelps finished the eight-kilometer race in 27:43.9 as the Fightin' Quakers' top finisher at the meet. Freshman Evan Whitaker finished two spots behind Phelps with a time of 27:48.1.

"I thought we ran pretty well for our first 8K as the conditions were tough with the heat," Head Coach Ron Combs said. "Big personal bests for Cameron [Phelps] and Evan [Whitaker]. I'm very happy for those two."

Sophomore Gage Clemens was the next Wilmington runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 106th place with a time of 29:16.8. Austin Wampler and Jacob Whitaker rounded out the Quakers top five with times of 29:41.3 and 29:44.8 respectively.

Justin Moakler of Morehead State University won the event individually with a time of 25:25.0.

Wilmington has a week off before heading to Akron for the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships on Sept. 29.
