Hayes with four hits in DH

ALLIANCE – The Wilmington College baseball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader to Mount Union, 4-1 and 12-0, Saturday at 23rd Street Field.

MOUNT UNION 4, WILMINGTON 1

  • Mount Union scored three of its four runs in the fourth inning to take the 3-1 lead. The Purple Raiders added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
  • Wilmington scored its only run in the third inning on an RBI single by sophomore Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek). Senior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) led the inning off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Hayes' single.
  • Hayes finished with two of Wilmington's five hits, all singles.
  • Relievers Joey Hollback (Salem, OH/Sebring McKinley) and Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) hurled four innings of one-hit relief.
  • Senior Luke Matthews, 0-3, (Centerville, OH/Centerville) allowed four runs on six hits in four innings of work.

MOUNT UNION 12, WILMINGTON 0

  • Hayes was responsible for half of Wilmington's four hits, including the Fightin' Quakers' only extra base hit of the day.
  • Mount Union scored in six of its turns at bat, including a four-run fourth inning.
  • Freshman Jared Ferenchak, 1-5, (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.
