ADA, OH – The Wilmington College baseball team pounded out 19 hits in two games, but dropped a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games to Ohio Northern Wednesday at Wander Field.
OHIO NORTHERN 16, WILMINGTON 4
- The Polar Bears scored in six of their eight at-bats, including 10 runs over the first three innings.
- Freshman Coltin Shafer (Florence, KY/Ryle) had a career-high three hits in five at-bats.
- Freshman Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) tallied just the second multi-hit game of his career.
- Freshman Antonio Miller (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) had two RBI – a run scoring single in the second and an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth. He also swiped his ninth stolen base of the season.
- Starter Joey Hollback, 1-4, (Salem, OH/Sebring McKinney) allowed six earned runs on five hits with four walks in 1 1/3 innings.
OHIO NORTHERN 4, WILMINGTON 2
- Wilmington had the tying run on second base with one out in the ninth inning, but a strike out and ground out ended the game.
- The first three batters reached in the ninth inning and sophomore Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) brought home senior Max Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) with a single.
- Miller's two-out single in the fifth inning scored Ramsey with the game's tying run in the fifth inning.
- ONU reclaimed the lead with a three-run sixth inning.
- Senior Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings with six strikeouts and three walks.
- Senior Alec Hutzelman (Centerville, OH/Centerville) and freshman Gage Bley (Harrison, OH/Harrison) both had two hits for Wilmington.
Wilmington (3-26 overall, 0-8 OAC) travels to Baldwin Wallace 1 p.m. Saturday for an OAC doubleheader.
