(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College softball team lost both games of their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener with the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets at home Friday afternoon. They dropped game one, 9-0 and game two 7-4. The Quakers had a few chances to tie the game during the second contest but were unable to get over the hump. Wilmington drops to 10-7-1 overall this season and 0-2 in the OAC.

Game One – Baldwin Wallace defeats Wilmington, 9-0 (5 innings)

The first game was close for most of the contest. The Yellow Jackets grabbed a run in the top of the second inning, but that score held till the top of the fifth frame. Wilmington could only muster a pair of hits during the first four innings of play.

The fifth inning doomed the Quakers as Baldwin Wallace scored eight runs and put the game out of reach. Wilmington got a pair of base runners in the bottom of the frame but couldn't bring anyone home.

Game Two – Baldwin Wallace defeats Wilmington, 7-4

The second contest was scoreless through the first two innings. Wilmington had a runner in scoring position during the second frame, but couldn't hit her in. Baldwin Wallace took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third and extended their advantage to 3-0 in the top of the fourth.

The next run scored on a wild pitch, but that was all the Quakers would get. A pair of walks loaded the bases later in the inning, but a line out ended it.

Baldwin Wallace scored two more runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Quakers loaded the bases once again in the sixth with two outs but couldn't get the big hit. Samantha Schwab had an RBI single in the seventh and Claire Scully hit a sacrifice fly, but the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.
