(CLERMONT, Fla.) – The Wilmington College softball team completed their third day of The Spring Games Wednesday afternoon, and just like the other two days, they won one game and lost one game. The beat the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 6-3 before dropping a contest to the No. 11 Bethel University (Minn.) Royals, 13-6. They had a 6-0 lead in both games and were able to hang on against Wisconsin-Stout, but not against the high-powered offense of Bethel. The Quakers are now 3-5 overall this season and play their final two games in Florida tomorrow.

Wilmington defeats Wisconsin-Stout, 6-3

The Quakers grabbed a quick run in the bottom of the first inning off a Judaea Wilson single through the right to bring in Jocelyn Franz and make it 1-0. Franz reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice and got herself into scoring position by stealing a base with two outs.

The Blue Devils went one, two, three in the top of the second before the Quakers did some damage in the bottom of the second. They scored five runs on three hits to take a 6-0 advantage. Wilmington loaded the bases with nobody out, and Chloe Dorn brought in the first run as she was hit by a pitch and then Kori Cornett hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Samantha Schwab walked to bring in the third run and another sacrifice fly came from Wilson. On the sacrifice fly, the left fielder made a poor throw in and allowed a second run to score.

The Quakers would get two more runners in scoring position throughout the rest of the contest but held the Blue Devils in check. Aiyana Hancock pitched into the seventh inning and recorded the first two outs of the inning. A couple unearned runs would score after a Quakers error, but Hillary Huffer came into the game and picked up the save and the Wilmington victory.

Bethel (Minn.) defeats Wilmington, 13-6

Just like the first game, the Quakers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the No. 11 team in Division III softball. They scored one run in the second inning on a bad throw from the catcher down to second base, which allowed Judaea Wilson to score.

The third inning saw Wilson pick up an RBI before Maddie Starnes singled in a run on a base hit to left field. On the play, Jocelyn Franz also scored due to obstruction by the catcher to make it a 4-0 game. The final runs came on an Alasandra Spears two-out double into the left field gap to plate two more Quakers.

However, this was all Wilmington would get, as the Royals took advantage of eight walks and scored 13 unanswered runs to win the game, 13-6. The Quakers had a few runners in scoring position throughout the remainder of the contest, but couldn't bring them home.
