(CLERMONT, Fla.) – The Wilmington College softball team finished day two of The Spring Games 1-1. They faced off against the University of Southern Maine Huskies and the Salem State University Vikings. The Quakers fell to the Huskies 9-6 and defeated the Vikings 7-6. Maddie Starnes and Jocelyn Franz had multiple runs batted in (RBI) in game one, while Judaea Wilson drove in four runs for Wilmington in game two. The Quakers take the day off tomorrow, and will return to action Wednesday morning at 10:15 A.M.

Game One – Southern Maine defeats Wilmington, 9-6

Wilmington plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning after Alasandra Spears poked a double down the right field line. With two outs, Chloe Dorn smoked a ball up the middle to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead. Southern Maine responded with four unanswered runs heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Quaker struck back with three runs to tie the game at 4-4. It started with a Kori Cornett double to right center field before an out. The Quakers loaded the bases as Samantha Schwab reached via error before Judaea Wilson singled up the middle. Maddie Starnes followed with a bases clearing double but was thrown out trying to reach third base.

The Huskies scored four in the top of the sixth. A Jocelyn Franz two-out two run double cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth at 8-6. It wasn't meant to be though as the Quakers walked away with a loss.

Game Two – Wilmington defeats Salem State, 7-6

The Quakers jumped all over the Vikings in the early innings, scoring seven unanswered runs for a 7-0 lead after three and a half frames. Judaea Wilson drove in four of the runs, while Alasandra Spears had two RBI and Maddie Starnes provided the other RBI.

A three-run homerun helped the Vikings get back into the contest with a four spot in the bottom of the third.

The Quakers only had one runner in scoring position for the remainder of the game, as the Vikings made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh. They loaded the bases with one out before an RBI single made it a 7-5 game. During this sequence, a runner was caught in a rundown trying to score a second run and was thrown out to give Wilmington two outs. A walked in RBI provided the final run, but Aiyana Hancock shut the door with her first save of the season to give the Quakers the 7-6 win.
