(HANOVER, Ind.) – The Wilmington College softball team completed a pair of seventh inning comebacks to come away from their doubleheader with Hanover College Sunday afternoon with a pair of victories. They won game one 17-7 after an 11-run seventh frame doomed the Panthers before winning game two 8-6 after a four-run seventh inning. Wilmington is now 7-5 overall this season as they are right back on the field tomorrow at Ohio Wesleyan.

Game One – Wilmington defeats Hanover 17-7

The Quakers struck first in the game in the top of the second inning off a clutch two-out Rachel Berry two-RBI single up the middle to give Wilmington a 2-0 lead. The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third. This lead increased to 4-2 after the fourth inning.

Jocelyn Franz hit an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth frame before Samantha Schwab cleared the bases with a huge two-out three-run homerun to left field to give Wilmington a 6-4 lead.

Hanover scored three unanswered runs and held a 7-6 advantage heading into the top of the seventh. The Quakers then forgot how to make outs. They scored nine runs while only making one out. The final two runs came after a sacrifice fly and a Maddie Summers single up the middle. In the inning, Franz, Judaea Wilson, Summers, Berry, and Schwab all had at least one RBI.

Hanover took an early 2-0 lead before Wilmington struck back with two runs of their own in the top of the second. The first run came on a Rachel Berry single to right field and the second came via a fielder's choice that allowed Claire Scully to tie the game. Hanover would score two more runs right away and take back a 4-2 lead.

The top of the fourth inning saw Wilmington tie the game once again at 4-4. The first run scored after Berry stole second, forcing a throw, which allowed Alasandra Spears to score. The second came on a clutch two-out Jocelyn Franz single to left field to tie it up.

The Panthers scored two in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-4 advantage and looked to win it in the seventh. The Quakers loaded the bases with one out. McKenna Archey brought in one run with a fielder's choice, but Mollie Moore was thrown out during the same play to give Hanover two outs.
