BEXLEY, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team's bats remained cold in a pair of defeat at Capital University to end the 2021 regular season on Friday. The Crusaders took the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) doubleheader 5-0 and 7-4.

Game one was very similar to the doubleheader at the WC Softball Complex as the Fightin' Quakers simply could not solve Brianna Shearer. The Crusader hurler won her third game of the series allowing three hits and striking out 10. Capital's first three runs came on solo home runs in the second and third innings.

Lindsey Carter took the loss on the mound for Wilmington allow those three home runs to Lauren Kachure, Lexie Leggett and Jessica Camp. Three Quakers – Arianna Layne, Carter and Lizz Hadley – had singles in the game.

In the nightcap, Alecia Kemp singled home Megan Crager in the top of the first, but Capital answered with a two-out grand slam from Leggett in the fourth and plated two more in the fifth. Wilmington added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh, but couldn't overcome the six-run deficit.

Hayley Suchland took the loss allowing five earned runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Katelyn Wilheim earned the win going five innings while Shearer got her first save of the season.

Wilmington concludes the 2021 regular season with a 16-24 overall record and a 15-21 mark in OAC play.
