WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a four-game series against John Carroll University this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will travel University Heights for a doubleheader on Saturday and host a twinbill on Sunday. Both days are slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Quakers are 15-13 overall and 14-10 in the OAC after taking 3-of-4 games from Ohio Northern University over the weekend. The Blue Streaks are 4-21 overall, 4-19 in conference competition and will attempt to snap a 15-game losing skid.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 14th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Nicole Loudin, a 2006 graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, is in her eighth season as JCU's head coach.

The Hitters: Two Wilmington freshmen – Arianna Layne and Lindsey Carter – lead the team in batting average over a .350 clip with Layne leading the squad with 23 RBIs while also being second in the home runs with seven. Sophomore Lizz Hadley and senior Megan Crager both hit over a .300 clip with Hadley driving in 13 runs while Suchland has hit six home runs. Emma Gurley and Kristen Jesberger both have over a .300 clip while Gurley and Gracie Bessoud have both stolen at least 10 bases.

The Pitchers: Alexis Stringfellow and Hayley Suchland have both pitched over 60 innings for the Quakers and both carry ERAs in the 3.00s. Stringfellow has a team-best 3.18 ERA in 66 innings which Suchland leads the squad in strikeouts with 40. Lindsey Carter also also pitched over 37 innings for Wilmington. A trio of Blue Streaks – Katie DeBord, Danielle Orendi and Madison Eagles – have split the pitching duties for JCU with DeBord leading the way with 63.2 innings and a 5.83 ERA.

Series History: Wilmington is 4-16 against John Carroll since the 2009 season. The Quakers won both meetings in the spring of 2019, however. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
