GAME PROGRAM - SATURDAY AT WC

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a four-game series against Marietta College this weekend. The Fightin' Quakers will host the Pioneers for two games at the WC Softball Complex on Saturday and travel to Marietta on Sunday. First pitch on both days is slated for 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Marietta. The Quakers enter the weekend with an even 6-6 record to go along with a 5-3 OAC mark after splitting a pair of games with Baldwin Wallace University over the weekend. The Pioneers are 1-7 overall and 1-7 in conference competition after falling in 3-of-4 games to Ohio Northern University last weekend.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 14th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Jenn Castle, previously an assistant with Marietta for seven seasons, is in her third season as the program's head coach.

The Hitters: Two Wilmington freshmen – Arianna Layne and Lindsey Carter – lead the team in batting average over a .400 clip with Layne leading the squad in home runs with five and RBIs with 16. Sophomore Lizz Hadley and senior Alecia Kemp both hit over a .350 clip and lead the squad in walks draw with six and five respectively. Kaitlyn Carpenter leads the Pioneers offensively with a .474 batting average, two doubles and 11 total bases.

The Pitchers: Alexis Stringfellow and Hayley Suchland have both pitched over 23 innings for Wilmington. Stringfellow has a team-best 2.66 ERA while Suchland has 17 strikeouts. Maddi Liston leads the Pioneer pitching staff with a 3.41 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched.

Strike Out Cancer Game: Marietta and Wilmington are joining sides to help strike out cancer. The two games at Wilmington will be played in honor of Rosie Cook, the mother of Wilmington Assistant Coach Jillia Cook, who is currently battling lung cancer. She will throw out the first pitch of game one. Donations will be collected throughout the OAC on Saturday and sent to Saint Baldricks in Salem, Ohio.
