Three Quakers Competing at Indoor Track & Field Championships Starting Tomorrow

Championship Details

(VIRGINIA Beach, Va.) – Tomorrow morning marks the start of the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships from the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Quakers have three athletes competing at the championships in juniors Nathen Borgan and Jarrett Durr, and sophomore Faith Duncan.

Borgan and Durr both qualified in the Weight Throw and will be competing tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M. in the very first event of the championships that are not part of the men's heptathlon. This is the second time that Durr qualified in the Weight Throw, with the first coming in 2022, and this is the first time qualifying indoors for Borgan.

Nathen Borgan began his season in December of 2023 with a mark of 17.76m in the Weight Throw and he has improved greatly since then. He broke the program record with a mark of 19.22m at the Muskie Meet #4 on February 16th. The very next week, he broke his own record with a toss of 19.39m to win the event at the OAC Championships by nearly a full meter. This throw was good for seventh in the country heading into tomorrow's National Championships.

Much like Borgan, Jarrett Durr has improved a lot since the first meet of the season. He started the year with a high mark of 17.42m in the Weight Throw and would end the year in second place at the OAC Championships with a toss of 18.48m. He finished 19th in the country in the event heading into tomorrow's meet. His career best throw is 18.68m, and he will look to replicate or best that toss tomorrow morning.

Borgan and Durr look to become the first Quakers All-Americans in the Weight Throw since Hank Benedict finished third in the event during the 2002 Indoor Championships.

Faith Duncan joined the Wilmington squad as a transfer after winter break and made an immediate impact. She set two program records during her first meet in the Mile and the 3000 Meter Run. She improved on both those times throughout the season and became the first Quaker ever to finish the 3000 in under 10 minutes, running a 9:47.85 before later besting that time with a 9:43.87. This time was good for 19th best in Division III.

Duncan is the first woman to qualify for Wilmington in an indoor track event since Callen Martin in the 55-Meter Dash in 2010. She looks to become the first All-American for Wilmington in the 3000 Meter Run during the Ron Combs era (since 1997). She will be competing for the Quakers Saturday evening at 5:40 P.M.
