Quakers Perform Well at Grand Valley State University Friday

(ALLENDALE, Mich) – The Wilmington College men's track & field team competed at the GVSU Big Meet today, hosted by NCAA Division II school Grand Valley State University. There were no team scores for the event, and the Quakers had seven athletes in action.

The best finish for Wilmington came from Brady Vilvens in the non-invite portion of the High Jump. He cleared 1.95m on his first attempt, allowing him to place second in the event. Vilvens was unsuccessful in his attempts at 2.00m.

The Quakers had a trio of athletes finish in the top-seven of the non-invite portion of the Weight Throw in Jarrett Durr, Justin Shuga, and Nathen Borgan. Durr was fourth with a mark of 18.05m on his second to last attempt while Shuga finished fifth at 18.03m on his final throw. Rounding out the group was Borgan, who had a toss of 17.88m on his second throw for seventh place.

Simon Heys finished seventh for the Quakers in his heat of the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 14:17.49. Tate Yoder also ran the 5000 for the Quakers and finished his heat with a personal best time of 15:16.95 for 10th place. Running the 3000 Meter for the Quakers was Noah Tobin, who finished his heat with a time of 8:50.54.

Also in action for the Quakers on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville, Ohio were Mike Soltis and Nate Marcum. Soltis scored three points for the Quakers in the Shot Put, placing sixth with a mark of 14.66m on his second to last attempt. This ties his season-best mark set at the Wittenberg Tiger Opener on December 2nd. Marcum also scored three points for the Quakers, finishing sixth at 15.95m in the Weight Throw on his third attempt.
