Men's Swimming Blows Out Heidelberg in Return to Action

(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's swimming team returned to the pool this afternoon for the first time since late November in a dual at Heidelberg University. They defeated the Student Princes in dominant fashion, 145-25 to improve to 4-3 overall this season and 1-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Quakers team of Joakim Pedersen, Cameron Bolen, Sondre Haugen, and John Good got them off to a good start with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, swimming a time of 1:43.56. In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Austin Reed finished second with a time of 1:53.74, being bested by under a second by Heidelberg's Zach MacDonald (1:52.90).

Pedersen won the 50 Yard Backstroke at 26.87, before Dane Klosterman won the 50 Yard Breaststroke in 32.99 and Haugen took the 100 Yard Butterfly in 56.56. Haugen won his event by nearly five seconds.

Bolen won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 22.12, taking it by over a second. Pedersen won the 100 Yard Freestyle at 49.56 and was followed up by Reed, who swam a 51.91. Good took the 100 Yard Backstroke by over three seconds in 58.04 and was the only one to finish under a minute.

Bolen and Adam Moneypenny finished first and second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, respectively. Bolen swam a 1:01.82 and Moneypenny finished in 1:10.12. Haugen swam a solid time of 5:07.93 in the 500 Yard Freestyle to win the event.

The 50 Yard Butterfly was won by Reed in 26.45 seconds. Michael Phillipe swam the best time in an exhibition in the 200 Yard IM (2:12.63), but Logan Lippert (2:14.42) and Nathan Duerk (2:22.83) were the two official finishers in the event.

The final event saw Sondre Haugen, Austin Reed, Cameron Bolen, and Logan Lippert swim a time of 3:25.79 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.

Head coach Trip Breen had this to say after the dual, "It was great to have the opportunity to race again today after a long break. The team put in some great training over break and I am looking forward to seeing it pay off as we move forward."

After their successful return to action, the Quakers travel to Alliance, Ohio for a dual with the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders next Saturday, January 20th at 1:00 P.M.
