First OAC win for @DubC_MSoccer

Senior Nick Toney scored two goals to lead the Wilmington College men's soccer team to the 4-1 victory over Baldwin Wallace Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Townsend Field at Williams Stadium.

Wilmington (4-11 overall, 1-4 OAC) snapped a six-goal losing streak as the Fightin' Quakers claimed their first OAC win of the season. The four goals marked the most goals Wilmington has scored this season, and the most goals the Yellow Jackets have surrendered.

"It was a big win for the program," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "Obviously, having the losing streak we had going on, and also knowing fully well if we wanted any chance of a postseason, we had to start turning things around."

The Fightin' Quakers could have had a "not again" moment as Baldwin Wallace scored an early goal, taking the lead in the 14th minute. However, senior Jesse Burhman (Westlake, OH/Westlake) used perseverance near the goal to net the equalizer. It was Buhrman's first goal of the season.

"Their goalkeeper made three fantastic stops, and then finally, he couldn't hold them because they were point blank shots," said Lewis. "(Buhrman) got us on the board and really gave us a chance to win."

Freshman Daniel Kappelin (Pixbo, Sweden/ IHGR) tallied his first career goal, giving Wilmington a lead it wouldn't relinquish in the 53rd minute. Freshman Niklas Martennson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden/NTI) played a through ball from 30 yards out to Kappelin, who did the rest by placing a ball near the upper 90.

Toney (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) finished the scoring in the 63rd and 72nd minute.

Freshman Nick Latessa (Englewood, OH/Northmont) finished with five saves on six shots to pick up the win.

Wilmington travels to Otterbein 7 p.m. Tuesday in OAC action.
