The Wilmington College men's soccer team fell to Ohio Northern in Ohio Athletic Conference Tuesday, 5-2, on Townsend Field at Williams Stadium.

"We met a very hot Ohio Northern team, they played extremely well tonight, and when they got looks – they finished their chances," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis.

Both teams went on a scoring barrage as four goals were scored during a four-minute stretch late in the second half.

Senior Nick Toney (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) pulled Wilmington with a goal with a nifty move, splitting two defenders and shooting a laser past the ONU keeper from 15 yards away.

"We got a nice goal from Nick Toney, and at that point, you felt the momentum switch," said Lewis. "But they answered it."

However, the Polar Bears went on the offensive, tallying goals two goals 37 seconds apart in the 76th minute to open up a three-goal lead.

No sooner than Ohio Northern basked in the glow of a gaudy advantage, Wilmington was back on the attack. Freshman Treshaun Pate (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) made a run down the middle of the box forced a sliding save attempt. The save rebounded to Grady Garrison (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop McNicholas), who deposited the ball into the back of the net.

Ohio Northern tallied another goal in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.

The Polar Bears opened up the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute and then pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 53rd minute.

Wilmington (3-9 overall, 0-2 OAC), on a four-match losing streak, stays home 7 p.m. Saturday to host John Carroll in OAC action.
