The Wilmington College men's soccer team took advantage of a couple Muskingum miscues to reel in their second Ohio Athletic Conference win of the season, beating the Muskies, 3-0, Wednesday on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

Wilmington took the lead in the 25th minute as freshman Niklas Martennson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden/NTI) scored on a penalty kick.

"We struggled a bit to start the game, but we started to open up and relax a bit," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "We started to get dangerous and really moved the ball out of the back. It was nice to get the goal lead instead of being a goal down. We talked at halftime about having that being down mentality. We have been a very good second half team. I was pleased with our second half; we created a lot of dangerous chances."

The mentality paid dividends early in the second half as the Fightin' Quakers earned another penalty kick less than two minutes into the half. Martennson once again did the honors to double WC's lead.

Less than four minutes later, the duo of Alec Rivers (Ross, OH/Ross) and Chris Bourque (Batavia, OH/Batavia) teamed for goal. Rivers' corner kick was placed into the middle of the box, and Bourque headed it home.

"Great service by Alec, and the keeper never had a chance to get to the ball because it was a driven ball," said Lewis. "Literally, Chris just had to direct it to the goal and it was going to go in."

It was Bourque's first goal and Rivers' first assist of their respective careers.

Lewis credited the play of seniors Nick Toney (Morrow, OH/Little Miami), Ethan Zimpfer (Botkins, OH/Botkins) and Jesse Buhrman (Westlake, OH/Westlake).

"Our seniors today performed very well," said Lewis.

Freshman Nick Latessa (Englewood, OH/Northmont) recorded one save on two shots in the victory.

Wilmington (5-13 overall, 2-6 OAC) wraps up the season 7 p.m. Saturday, hosting Heidelberg.
