Spirk, Kappelin score in @DubC_MSoccer loss

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College men's soccer team allowed three goals in each half as the Fightin' Quakers surrendered a season-high six goals, and it fell to Otterbein, 6-2, Tuesday in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

"It was a day in which we didn't play well collectively as a group," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "It's very disappointing, especially coming off a big win over Baldwin Wallace (Saturday). Otterbein capitalized on every opportunity we gave them. It was a very disappointing loss in general. At times we played well, but we were not good defensively."

Otterbein jumped out early on WC as the Cardinals scored in the 11th minute, and then doubled the lead courtesy of an own goal in the 15th minute.

Freshman Benny Spirk (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) tallied his second goal of the season, deflecting a free kick past the keeper. However, the Cardinals retaliated with another goal in the 23rd minute to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The Cardinals added goals in the 62nd and 71st minutes to open up a 5-1 lead.

Freshman Daniel Kappelin (Pixbo, Sweden/IKGR) recorded his second goal of the season, scoring in the 76th minute, beating the keeper from 15 yards out.

Otterbein tacked on a final goal in the 89th minute.

Freshman keeper Nick Latessa (Englewood, OH/Northmont) made four saves on 10 shots in 90 minutes of action.

Wilmington (4-12 overall, 1-5 OAC) travels to Mount Union 4 p.m. for its final road game of the season.
