BIRMINGHAM, AL – Birmingham Southern scored less than two minutes into the second overtime to snap a scoreless tie and knock off the Wilmington College men's soccer team Friday, 1-0, in non-conference action.

"We really played well, especially with team defending," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "I thought we had several dangerous scoring threats, but BSC did a great job of not allowing us to behind them. It was very disappoints to give up a goal on a set piece free kick. We had a lot of the play, but did not capitalize on the chances we created."

The Fightin' Quakers' defense was stout for the majority of the game, and didn't allow a single shot on goal until the game's 96th minute. While Wilmington's defense was keeping the Panthers from presenting any dangerous chances, WC had six shots on goal in the first 100 minutes.

Sophomore Grady Garrison (Cincinnati, OH/McNicholas) and freshman Niklas Martennson (Torna Hallestad, Sweden / NTI) each had two shots on goal, while sophomore Tahj Sho-Johnson (Princeton, WVa./Princeton) and freshman Benny Spirk (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) had a shot on goal each.

Wilmington (1-1) plays Millsaps Noon Sunday in Birmingham.
