Bill Ramseyer Celebration of Life Event Set for April 30 at WC

All those whose lives were touched by former Wilmington College football coach and athletic director Bill Ramseyer are invited to attend a celebration of life service Saturday, April 30, at 1 p.m., in Hermann Court on the WC campus.

The event, which is hosted by the Ramseyer family, will feature a memorial service, personal testimonies and a lunch. The coach died Feb. 18, 2021, after a period of failing health. A service originally planned for last fall was postponed until this spring due to the pandemic.

Ramseyer was head football coach at WC for 19 seasons, 1972 to 1990, while also holding the positions of athletic director and professor of physical education. He coached the Quakers to 144 victories, 58 losses and four ties, accounting for a winning percentage of 66 percent. His players earned All-America status 63 times. Ramseyer moved on from WC in 1990 to start a football program from scratch as the founding head coach at Clinch Valley College, now known as Virginia—Wise University.

He is a 1996 inductee into Wilmington College's Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a member of seven halls of fame, including the NAIA, and was a 2021 finalist for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Those wishing to attend the April 30 event are requested to RSVP for a lunch headcount with former assistant coach Greg Oliver at <gregoliver@frontier.com> or 571.315.5452.
