Football Heads to No. 25 John Carroll on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team heads to Northeast Ohio for the second consecutive weekend on Saturday for a matchup with John Carroll University on Saturday. Kickoff from Don Shula Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Fightin' Quakers are in search of their first victory of the season after a 41-7 defeat at No. 25 Baldwin Wallace University last Saturday. The Blue Streaks are 5-2 overall after a 19-10 triumph at Marietta College last weekend.

The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his fifth season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on the program having brought in three large freshman classes, and that has paid off on the field with multiple victories each of the last two seasons. Previously, Moore spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg. Rick Finotti is in his fifth season as JCU's head coach. He carries a 26-8 record during that stretch.

The Offenses: Derek Larimer quarterbacks the Wilmington offense and averages nearly 200 yards per game with six touchdowns and an efficiency rating of 117.6. Itika Wynn Jr. has hauled in 31 receptions for 368 yards and two scores while a trio of Quakers - Dallas Rawlings, Ben Hobbs and Tyreeq Nebbitt - have all carried over 40 times and average nearly 30 yards per game. Demerius Goodwin averages nearly 100 yards per game and has carried the ball 116 times for JCU. Quarterback Jake Floriea has completed 131-of-210 passes for an average of over 230 yards per game. His favorite target, Brennan Fugh, has 36 receptions, six for touchdowns and 718 total yards.

The Defenses: Tre'Quez Parks is coming off a 20-tackle performance at Baldwin Wallace and he leads the Wilmington defense with 58 tackles. Jarod Lee is the leader of the linebacking core in the tackles department having 45 on the season. Jalaun Covington has a team-best five pass breakups while Elijah Carson and Quentin Davis both have two interceptions for the Quakers. Tyshawn Jones has 50 tackles for the JCU defensive until while a trio of Blue Streaks - Luke Brown, Orlando Hunter and Daniel Garia - have at least 30 tackles. Bricker Thiel has sacked opposing quarterbacks 6.5 times.
